Severe Depression Over Bay Expected to Bring Heavy Rain to West Bengal Until Friday

A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring significant rainfall to West Bengal through Friday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for various districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and related weather disturbances.

The weather system, which formed earlier this week, is predicted to enhance rainfall intensity, with some areas expected to receive over 200 mm of rain. The North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Hooghly districts may experience the most severe conditions.

Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant, particularly in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. The state government is monitoring the situation closely and has prepared flood relief measures, including the deployment of rescue teams and distribution of essential supplies.

Historically, the monsoon season in West Bengal has been characterized by heavy rainfall, which can lead to both agricultural benefits and infrastructural challenges. The regions preparedness and response to such weather events have evolved over the years, in light of past experiences with flooding and disaster management.
