25 lakh shops in Delhi may remain closed due to INDIA bloc rally, raising concerns over potential trade losses.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has raised concerns that approximately 250,000 shops in Delhi could be forced to close due to a rally organized by the opposition coalition known as the INDIA bloc. This event is scheduled to take place on December 1, 2023, and CAIT has warned that the closure of these shops could lead to significant financial losses for traders in the capital.

CAITs Secretary General, Praveen Khandelwal, emphasized the potential impact of the rally, stating that the traders are already facing challenges from rising inflation and the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed that the rally could exacerbate these difficulties by disrupting business operations in the city.

The organization has urged the Delhi Police to take necessary precautions to ensure that the rally does not hinder the daily activities of local businesses. Khandelwal pointed out that many traders are already struggling to recover from previous economic setbacks, and any further disruptions could be detrimental to their livelihoods.

In response to these concerns, CAIT has called for a dialogue with the authorities to address the potential implications of the rally on the trading community. They are advocating for measures to minimize the impact on businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises that form the backbone of the local economy.

The INDIA bloc, which comprises various opposition parties, is expected to gather a large number of supporters for the rally, aiming to highlight their political agenda and mobilize public support ahead of upcoming elections. While the event is intended to be a platform for political expression, the traders association is emphasizing the need for balance between political activities and the economic well-being of local businesses.

As the date of the rally approaches, the CAIT is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to take further action if necessary to protect the interests of traders in Delhi. The organization remains hopeful that a solution can be reached that allows for both the rally to proceed and for businesses to operate without significant disruption.
