Africa CDC Calls on Congo and Uganda to Enhance Funding for Ebola Response and Vaccination Efforts

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is urging the governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda to allocate additional funding towards combating the Ebola virus outbreak and advancing vaccine development efforts.

The call for increased financial support comes as these nations grapple with recurring Ebola outbreaks, which have had significant health and economic impacts in the region. Africa CDC emphasizes that robust funding is essential for strengthening health systems, enhancing surveillance, and facilitating research that could lead to the development of effective vaccines and treatment options.

As of June 2023, the DRC has reported several outbreaks of Ebola in different provinces over the past few years, while Uganda has also experienced its own challenges with the virus. The Africa CDCs push for funding highlights the urgent need for a coordinated regional response and the importance of preventive measures to control the spread of the disease.

The organization is also calling for collaboration with international partners to support these initiatives, ensuring that adequate resources and expertise are made available to tackle the ongoing health crisis.
