AI-Supported Eye Screening Service Launched at GGH in Guntur
A pilot project aimed at screening for diabetic retinopathy is set to expand its reach to Kurnool and Visakhapatnam later this month. This initiative, which is part of a broader effort to enhance eye health among individuals with diabetes, will involve screening approximately 9,000 people over a period of three months.
Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss if not diagnosed and treated early. The screening process will include comprehensive eye examinations and education on diabetes management to help prevent the onset of this condition.
Health authorities are optimistic about the projects extension, as it aims to raise awareness and facilitate timely interventions for those at risk. Previous phases of the pilot project have successfully identified individuals requiring further evaluation and treatment, demonstrating the importance of proactive health measures within diabetic populations.
This initiative highlights ongoing efforts to improve public health in the region, emphasizing the critical link between chronic conditions like diabetes and eye health. It reinforces the commitment of local health departments and organizations to reduce the incidence of diabetic retinopathy through early detection and education.
