Airfare Increase of ₹10,000 for Haj Pilgrims Faces Backlash

A circular issued on April 28 has mandated that all Haj pilgrims must make an additional payment of ₹10,000 by May 15, irrespective of their departure location. The Minister has justified this decision, citing the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia as a key factor influencing the increased costs associated with the pilgrimage.

The additional payment is expected to cover enhanced security measures and logistical support due to regional tensions. The Haj pilgrimage, which traditionally attracts millions of Muslims from around the world, is organized annually by the Ministry of Minority Affairs in coordination with the Saudi Arabian government.

This move follows rising concerns over safety and the need for additional arrangements to ensure the well-being of pilgrims. Officials emphasize that this fee will be crucial in providing necessary support and resources amid the shifting dynamics in the region.

Pilgrims are encouraged to remain informed about any further updates or changes regarding their travel plans as the situation evolves. The Haj pilgrimage is scheduled to take place later this year, adhering to guidelines set by both the Indian government and Saudi authorities.
