Andhra Pradesh Requests Increased Bengal Gram Procurement through Price Support Scheme
Agricultural stakeholders are urging the Central Government to raise the procurement limit for crops from 94,500 metric tons (MT) to 457,365 MT. This request aligns with updated production estimates, which indicate a significant increase in crop yields.
The stakeholders argue that the adjusted procurement limit is essential to support farmers and ensure that excess produce can be effectively purchased, thereby stabilizing market prices. Increasing the limit could also facilitate better income for farmers and help to manage surplus stock that may otherwise go to waste.
As part of their appeal, they emphasize the importance of timely government intervention to ensure a fair and adequate price for their harvests, especially in light of changing environmental conditions and agricultural challenges that have affected many regions. This increase would help bolster the agricultural economy and provide a safety net for producers facing unpredictable market conditions.
Further discussions with the government regarding the implications of these revised production estimates and the potential impacts on procurement policies are anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
