APSRTC Employees’ Joint Action Committee to Unveil Plans for Second Phase of Agitation on June 28
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has expressed strong opposition to the State governments proposal to introduce privately operated electric buses and the potential transfer of Regional Transport Corporation (RTC) assets to private operators.
The group believes that privatizing public transport services could impact fare affordability, service quality, and job security for existing RTC employees. They argue that public transport should remain a government responsibility, ensuring equitable access for all citizens.
In recent years, several states have explored privatization in transport sectors, often citing increased efficiency and innovation. However, the JAC warns that similar measures in other regions have sometimes led to decreased service levels and rising costs for commuters.
The government has stated that the initiative aims to modernize the public transport system, reduce urban pollution, and enhance service through competition. Stakeholders are urged to participate in upcoming discussions to address concerns raised by the JAC and find a balance between public service obligations and the introduction of new technologies in the transport sector.
