Bihar Chief Minister Advocates for Inclusion of Maithili in CBSE Curriculum to Strengthen Cultural Roots Among Future Generations
BJP leader and Member of Parliament representing the Darbhanga constituency, Gopal Ji Thakur, recently met with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who also holds the position of Minister of State for Education. During the meeting, Thakur advocated for the inclusion of the Maithili language as a subject in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum.
The proposal to incorporate Maithili, a language with deep cultural and historical significance in regions such as Bihar and parts of Nepal, aligns with ongoing discussions about the promotion of regional languages in educational settings. Maithili is one of the recognized Indian languages and has more than 34 million speakers according to the 2001 Census. By adding it to the CBSE syllabus, advocates believe it would enhance linguistic diversity, provide educational opportunities for students, and help preserve the language for future generations.
The demand reflects a broader movement to promote regional languages in the Indian education system, a topic that has garnered attention from various stakeholders, including educators, linguists, and cultural organizations.
