Bihar Chief Minister Commends CBSEs Inclusion of Maithili in Curriculum
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed pride in the decision to include the Maithili language in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum, extending from class 1 through to the secondary level. He highlighted this initiative as a significant step towards preserving and promoting the cultural identity and linguistic heritage of the Mithila region.
The inclusion of Maithili aims to enhance the educational experience for students in the region and foster greater appreciation for local languages and cultures. Maithili is an ancient language spoken primarily in the Mithila region of Bihar and in parts of Nepal. It has a rich literary tradition and is recognized for its contributions to Indian culture and arts.
This move aligns with broader efforts to revitalize regional languages and ensure that they are represented in formal education, thus supporting linguistic diversity in India’s educational framework. The CBSEs curriculum changes are often influenced by regional demands and cultural significance, and this addition responds to advocacy from various stakeholders in the Mithila community.
