BJP Faces Challenges in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation as 20 Councillors, Including R. Sugathan of KAAPA, Required to Retake Oath

In January, Deputy Mayor G.S. Ashanath and Councillor R. Vinod took their oaths of office in a ceremony that emphasized their commitment to public service, invoking the name of Bharath Matha, a term that refers to Mother India and is often used to symbolize national pride and unity.

In contrast, several other councillors opted for different declarations during their oath-taking. Some chose to pledge their allegiance in the name of balidaanis, which translates to martyrs or those who have sacrificed their lives for the country, indicating a deep respect for those who have fought for national integrity. Additionally, a number of councillors invoked the names of their local deities, reflecting the diverse cultural and religious backgrounds that characterize the community.

This practice of choosing different entities to swear by highlights the unique values and traditions upheld by the elected representatives, showcasing a blend of national pride and local sentiment within the governance structure. Such variations in oath-taking also point to the significance of cultural and spiritual connections in public life, as well as the need for inclusivity in representation.
