BTech Graduate Transitions from IT Career to Successful Mushroom Farming Business Generating Over Rs 10 Lakh Monthly
After spending 14 years in the information technology sector, Vikramdev Mohapatra, a BTech graduate, made a significant career shift by returning to his hometown of Nabarangpur in Odisha to establish a commercial mushroom farming business. His company, Ganga Bhumi Mushrooms, has successfully developed operations to produce between 500 to 600 kilograms of mushrooms each day.
The cultivated mushrooms are supplied to markets in prominent cities such as Brahmapur and Bhubaneswar, contributing to the local economy. Ganga Bhumi Mushrooms generates impressive monthly revenues, reported to be between Rs 16 to 19 lakh, translating to over Rs 10 lakh in profit after expenses. This business not only demonstrates the potential for rural entrepreneurship but has also created job opportunities for 24 individuals, including 18 women, thereby promoting gender inclusivity in the workforce.
Mohapatras transition highlights a growing trend in India, where individuals are increasingly opting for agriculture and sustainable farming as viable career paths, shifting away from traditional corporate roles. This movement aligns with the governments initiatives to boost rural economies and promote self-sustainability in agriculture.
