Carborundum Universal Voices Concerns Over KSEBs Bid for Maniyar Hydel Project

A company has continued to operate a 12 MW power unit at the request of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), despite the expiration of their 30-year agreement in December 2024. Over the past year, the power generated by this unit has been supplied to KSEB; however, the company has not yet received compensation for this provision.

On April 29, KSEB took measures to assert control over the area, installing signage indicating the premises as a “KSEB property – Prohibited Area.” The company has indicated that it was not notified prior to the installation of these signs.

This situation highlights ongoing discussions about the terms of power agreements and the management of utility resources in Kerala. Stakeholders are likely to seek clarity on the contractual obligations and compensation protocols in place for such arrangements, particularly following the conclusion of long-term agreements.
