CBSE Releases Three-Language Policy Guidelines, Exempting Current Class X Students
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced new guidelines for implementing the three-language policy as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The revised policy prioritizes meaningful learning experiences over traditional examination methods.
Beginning in the academic year 2026-27, students in Class IX will undergo internal assessments for their third language instead of facing board examinations. This is a significant shift from previous practices, which required board exams for this language component. Students currently in Class X, as well as other earlier batches, will benefit from certain relaxations concerning these new guidelines.
Additionally, the policy accommodates children with special needs (CwSN) and foreign students, ensuring they are not disadvantaged due to their unique circumstances. The CBSE has also recognized the challenges faced by families who migrate and has established support mechanisms to assist these students in their educational journey.
The implementation of these guidelines aims to foster a more inclusive and diverse learning environment, promoting linguistic proficiency while reducing the pressure associated with examinations.
