“Celebrating 50 Years of Annakili: A Milestone Film in Ilaiyaraajas Career”

Fifty years have elapsed since the release of the film “Annakili,” yet its music continues to resonate with numerous generations of fans. This film marked the beginning of the exceptional career of renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja, who would go on to become one of the most celebrated figures in the Indian music industry.

Gangai Amaran, who collaborated closely with his brother Ilaiyaraaja during the composing sessions and played the role of rhythm guitarist for the film, shared his reflections on this significant period in an interview with journalist B. Kolappan. He noted that the higher octaves in the song “Annakili Unnai Theduthey” served as a symbolic indicator of the extraordinary heights Ilaiyaraaja was destined to reach in his illustrious career.
