Centre Announces Minimum Wage of ₹300 per Day for VB-GRAM G Workers

Haryana Sets Record with Highest MGNREGA Wage Rate of ₹409/day

Haryana has announced an increase in its wage rate under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), setting the highest daily wage at ₹409. This significant adjustment comes as part of an effort to align wage rates across different states and Union Territories (UTs) with the newly introduced minimum wage floor established by the VB-GRAM (Village-Based Grievance Redressal and Monitoring) program.

In total, 21 states and UTs that had previously maintained lower wage rates have now implemented substantial increases to comply with this new floor rate. This move is aimed at ensuring that rural laborers receive fair compensation that reflects the current economic conditions and inflationary trends.

While northern states, including Haryana, have seen significant adjustments, southern states that already offered higher wages are experiencing more modest increases. For example, states such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, known for their relatively high MGNREGA pay structure, are making only slight adjustments in their wage rates.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Indian government to enhance the livelihood of rural citizens and improve the overall socio-economic status of farming and labor communities across the country. The increased wage rates are expected to positively impact rural household income and help in alleviating poverty in these areas. As the implementation of these changes is confirmed, stakeholders are looking forward to monitoring the effects on employment levels and economic development within rural regions.
