Centre remains non-committal regarding AIIMS establishment in Kerala.
In a recent session of the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Health addressed inquiries from Members of Parliament Kodikunnil Suresh and Adoor Prakash regarding the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kerala. The Minister confirmed that the proposal for the AIIMS project has not received approval at this time. Furthermore, the Minister did not offer a specific timeline for when such an approval might be granted or if future discussions regarding the project would take place.
The establishment of AIIMS institutions across India is part of the governments efforts to enhance the countrys healthcare infrastructure and ensure that advanced medical facilities are accessible to a wider population. The AIIMS model is designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services, medical education, and research. While several states have already seen AIIMS approved and built, the status of proposed projects in other regions continues to be a topic of interest among local representatives and citizens. Currently, Kerala does not have an AIIMS, and the delay in approval has raised concerns regarding the states healthcare capacity and access to specialized medical services.
