Indian Chess Olympiad Team Faces Accommodation Issues in Uzbekistan

The Indian chess team encountered significant logistical challenges during their stay in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the ongoing 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad. Reports indicate that the team was left without hotel accommodations for over five hours upon arrival, prompting frustrations among players and officials alike.

Captain Srinath Narayanan expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the accommodation problems, calling the experience “terrible.” He highlighted the necessity for better organization, especially considering the importance of the event and the high expectations placed on the team, which is recognized as one of the favorites to win.

The Chess Olympiad, held from September 28 to October 16, 2023, brings together teams from around the world to compete in various formats. In this year’s edition, the Indian womens team aims to defend their title and maintain their status as frontrunners.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has yet to release a statement regarding these accommodation issues, which have sparked discussions about the operational preparedness for such a significant international event.
