Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu Initiates National Campaign to Address Opposition to Constitution Amendment Bill

Opposition parties have successfully opposed a proposed bill that was aimed at adjusting the allocation of Lok Sabha seats across states, citing concerns about its potential negative impact on smaller states, particularly those in the South and North Eastern regions of India. Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modis assurances of an equitable increase in seat allocations, dissenting voices remained steadfast in their belief that the bill would disproportionately disadvantage smaller and less populous states.

On April 17, a day that Mr. Naidu described as “a black day in Indian political history,” opposition leaders gathered to discuss the ramifications of the bill and to highlight their commitment to ensuring fair representation for all states in the Lok Sabha, Indias lower house of Parliament.
