Chinese Foreign Ministry Clarifies Beijing-Bangladesh Relations are Non-Adversarial to Third Parties

China has reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh in the development of the comprehensive Teesta River project. Bangladeshs Minister of Foreign Affairs, A.K. Abdul Momen, communicated Dhaka’s commitment to the “One China” policy during recent discussions.

This project is vital for Bangladesh as the Teesta River is essential for the country’s agricultural irrigation and flood management. Historically, the Teesta River has been a point of contention between Bangladesh and India, and collaboration in its management is seen as an opportunity to strengthen regional ties.

Additionally, China has previously backed Bangladesh in affirming its sovereignty and territorial integrity, signaling a strong diplomatic relationship. This support aligns with Chinas broader strategy of deepening ties with South Asian countries as part of its Belt and Road Initiative, which seeks to enhance infrastructure and economic development throughout the region.

As these diplomatic efforts evolve, the focus remains on fostering mutual benefits and stability in South Asia, with infrastructure projects like the Teesta River project potentially providing critical resources for sustainable development in Bangladesh.
