CNG Price Increased by Rs 3.89/kg in Delhi-NCR Due to Rising LNG Costs
CNG Price Increase in Delhi-NCR: Impact on Transportation Sector
The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) has risen by ₹3.89 per kilogram in the Delhi-NCR region, bringing the total price to ₹87.50/kg as of the latest announcement by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL). This increase, which is mainly attributed to the rising costs of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the geopolitical tensions in West Asia, aims to balance the company’s operational costs.
In response to this price hike, various auto and taxi unions in the region have voiced their concerns, demanding an adjustment in fares. Union representatives have indicated a potential strike if their requests are not met, stressing the need to avoid additional financial burdens on commuters while also maintaining their livelihoods.
Shahnawaz Hussain, a spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), commented on the situation, suggesting that CNG prices may stabilize and potentially decline once the political climate between the United States and Iran improves, which affects global energy prices.
Auto and taxi unions, which have been historically concerned about fare adjustments in line with fuel price fluctuations, have reiterated their stance against overburdening the public. They are actively negotiating a potential increase in fare to offset the operational costs brought about by the recent price hike.
Experts suggest that the increase in CNG prices could have a wider impact on transportation costs in the region, potentially affecting the prices of goods and services available to consumers.
As the situation develops, both transportation workers and consumers will be closely monitoring any negotiations regarding fare changes and future price stability.
