Coal Stock at Thermal Plants Drops to Critical Level at 50 Units

Coal Stockpiles at Thermal Plants Decline to Critical Levels

As of recent reports, coal stockpiles at thermal power plants across the country have reached critically low levels, with inventories falling to just 50 million tonnes. This significant decrease raises concerns about energy generation stability, especially as the country faces peak summer demand and ongoing monsoon conditions.

Thermal power producers are grappling with coal stock management, which has emerged as a pressing challenge amid fluctuating supply chains. With increasing electricity demand and supply uncertainties, companies are under pressure to optimize coal inventory levels to prevent potential power shortages.

In response to these challenges, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited has set an ambitious daily coal output target of 190,000 tonnes to help alleviate the situation. The company is expected to ramp up production to meet heightened demands from thermal plants relying heavily on coal for electricity generation.

Despite these challenges, there have been no reported generation curbs in thermal plants in Uttar Pradesh, even as monsoon rains disrupt usual supply and logistics routes. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure that energy generation remains stable.

Industry analysts are closely watching the unfolding scenario, highlighting the need for diversifying energy sources and improving storage capabilities to mitigate risks associated with heavy dependence on coal in the energy mix.
