Collector States Anantapur Has Potential to Serve as a Model for Natural Farming Nationwide

At a recent conference attended by farmers, O. Anand announced that the government has established an ambitious target of preparing 200,000 acres in Anantapur district for pre-monsoon dry sowing. This initiative aims to facilitate the adoption of natural farming practices in the area.

Pre-monsoon dry sowing, which involves planting seeds before the onset of monsoon rains, is being encouraged as a strategy to make use of residual moisture in the soil. This practice is expected to enhance crop yields and promote sustainability. The focus on natural farming aligns with broader government objectives to improve agricultural resilience and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Stakeholders believe that successful implementation of this target could lead to improved soil health, increased biodiversity, and better water conservation practices in Anantapur district, where agricultural productivity has faced challenges in recent years.
