Congress Releases Initial List of 55 Candidates for Kerala Assembly Elections 2026, Decision Pending on MP Aspirants
K.C. Venugopal, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, stated that the party is currently assessing the requests from Members of Parliament (MPs) concerning their desire to contest in upcoming elections. As of now, the Congress party has not announced candidates for the Kannur and Konni constituencies, where MPs K. Sudhakaran and Adoor Prakash have expressed interest, respectively.
The initial candidate list released by the party includes 20 incumbent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). These selections highlight the party’s strategy to maintain its existing legislative presence while considering how to address the aspirations of its MPs. Further discussions and evaluations are expected before finalizing the candidates for the contested seats. The Congress party aims to solidify its electoral strategy in preparation for the upcoming elections, focusing on balancing experienced incumbents with fresh political aspirations.
