Cost of First Bullet Train Project Doubles from Rs 1.1 Lakh Crore to Rs 2.1 Lakh Crore

Indias bullet train initiative is advancing the countrys aspirations for high-speed rail technology. Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) are collaborating to develop Indias first indigenous high-speed trainset, with plans for the initial train to be unveiled in 2027.

These new trains are designed to operate at speeds of approximately 250 kilometers per hour (km/h), and have a maximum design speed of 280 km/h. This project represents a significant step towards enhancing Indias rail infrastructure, potentially reducing travel times between major cities and providing a more efficient mode of transportation.

The ongoing development aligns with Indias broader goal of modernizing its rail network and promoting sustainable transport solutions. High-speed rail has the potential to attract more passengers from road and air transport, thereby contributing to reduced traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions. The successful rollout of the indigenous high-speed trainsets may set the stage for further advancements in rail technology within the country.
