CPI(M) Requests Reconsideration of Proposed NFSA Amendment

The political party has expressed concerns regarding the proposed modifications to the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The party argues that these changes could lead to a reduction in food grain entitlements for smaller households, potentially exacerbating food insecurity among economically disadvantaged populations.

The Antyodaya Anna Yojana, initiated in 2000, aims to provide highly subsidized food grains to the poorest of the poor in India. The National Food Security Act, enacted in 2013, builds on this initiative by expanding food assistance coverage and ensuring a legal right to food for eligible households.

Critics of the proposed changes warn that reducing entitlements for smaller households could disproportionately impact low-income families, who already face challenges in meeting their nutritional needs. The party has called for a comprehensive review of the proposed adjustments to safeguard food security for the most vulnerable sections of society.

Further discussions are expected as stakeholders, including food security advocates and government representatives, engage in dialogue to assess the implications of these changes and to explore potential alternatives that prioritize the welfare of affected populations.
