CPI(M) to Analyze Factors Behind LDF Election Loss in Kozhikode; Congress to Review Defeat in Beypore
In the recent Assembly election results announced on May 4, 2026, the United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a significant victory, winning 12 out of the 13 electoral segments in Kozhikode district. The Left Democratic Front (LDF), in contrast, achieved a single victory in the Beypore segment, where former Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas emerged victorious.
The election results reflect a continuing trend of dominance by the UDF in the region, which has historically been a stronghold for the alliance. The UDF’s success is attributed to various factors, including effective campaigning and public sentiment, particularly in the wake of recent developmental initiatives and governance challenges faced by the LDF.
P.A. Mohamed Riyas, despite the LDFs overall setback, managed to maintain his position in Beypore, demonstrating localized support. As a prominent figure in the state government, his win may indicate pockets of resilience for the LDF in certain constituencies, despite the broader electoral trend.
Following the results, political analysts are expected to closely monitor the implications for both alliances as they prepare for future elections, particularly in light of the changing political dynamics in Kerala.
