Delegates from 11 Countries to Attend BRICS Meeting in Puri, Odisha from June 3-5
India recently chaired the inaugural technical meeting of the BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group, which took place virtually in April. This meeting aimed to establish a collaborative agenda focusing on enhancing disaster resilience among member nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
During the meeting, participants discussed various strategies and best practices for managing natural disasters, with an emphasis on building resilience in communities affected by such events. The working group seeks to facilitate knowledge sharing, improve coordination among member states during crises, and develop a set of standards and guidelines tailored to disaster risk reduction.
The BRICS nations have recognized the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters due to climate change and other factors, making this initiative crucial for safeguarding vulnerable populations. Future meetings will continue to explore comprehensive action plans and cooperative frameworks to strengthen disaster response and recovery efforts across the bloc.
