Delhi Government Approves Electric Vehicle Policy: Exemption of Road Tax and Registration Fees for Electric Cars Priced Under ₹30 Lakh

Starting January 1, 2027, the Government of Delhi will implement a policy that allows only the registration of electric autorickshaws. This measure is part of the city’s broader initiative to promote sustainable transportation and reduce air pollution.

In addition, the registration of new petrol and compressed natural gas (CNG) two-wheelers will be gradually phased out. From April 1, 2028, only electric two-wheelers will be eligible for registration in the capital.

This move aligns with the governments objectives to decrease reliance on fossil fuels and improve air quality in urban areas. The policy is expected to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and further investment in EV infrastructure, such as charging stations, to facilitate this transition. Authorities hope to position Delhi as a leader in clean transportation solutions in the coming years.
