Delhi Voter Exclusions Noted to Surpass Other States

Delhis Voter Roll Controversy: Significant Exclusions Highlighted

A recent analysis has revealed a troubling trend regarding the draft electoral roll in Delhi, where nearly 66% of individuals, previously listed as voters, have been marked as shifted and subsequently removed from the list. This statistic indicates a significant discrepancy compared to voter rolls in other Indian states, where the rates of deletions are much lower.

The voter exclusions in Delhi have come under scrutiny, with experts calling attention to concerns over the electoral processs integrity. Reports indicate that around one-third of eligible voters have been left out entirely amid the latest update of the electoral rolls, described as chaotic by observers.

To address these discrepancies, affected voters will be required to fill out Form 8, which is designated for corrections. There have been notable issues, including erroneous entries of ages in the electoral roll, such as listings of voters who are 126 years old, further complicating the situation.

In a broader context, this phenomenon is not unique to Delhi. Other urban assembly segments across Maharashtra are also reportedly experiencing significant voter deletions, raising questions about the consistency and reliability of voter registration processes nationwide.

The Election Commission of India is expected to review these developments closely as they could influence upcoming electoral proceedings. Stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations, are urging for greater transparency and accuracy in the management of electoral rolls to ensure that every eligible voter is accounted for ahead of the elections.
