Discrepancy in Mileage Impact Estimates for E20 Fuel: One Minister Reports 2-6% Drop, Another Cites 3-5%

Government ministries have released differing estimates concerning the impact of E20 fuel on vehicle fuel efficiency. The Ministry of Road Transport reported a potential decrease in mileage for older vehicles ranging from 2% to 6%. In contrast, the Ministry of Petroleum suggested a more generalized reduction in efficiency of around 3% to 5%.

Both ministries emphasized that the actual fuel economy is influenced not only by the type of fuel used but also by various factors such as driving habits, maintenance practices, and vehicle condition. E20, which consists of 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline, is intended to offer a more sustainable fuel option. However, the effects on fuel efficiency may vary based on vehicle age and technology. Drivers are encouraged to consider these variables when making decisions about fuel use.
