Dispute Arises in Kerala Over BJP Stamp on Election Commission Letter for 2026 Assembly Elections

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has raised concerns regarding the handling of official seals in Kerala, questioning whether there has been a casual exchange of seals that undermines the integrity of official processes. The remarks come in light of a recent statement from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala, which clarified that a letter from 2019, previously utilized by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members for clarification on election-related issues, was disseminated inadvertently.

The 2019 correspondence was reportedly stamped with the BJPs official seal when party functionaries sought information from the CEOs office. The CEOs office has emphasized that the distribution of this letter was a result of an oversight rather than any deliberate action.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions in Keralas political landscape, particularly as the state approaches crucial elections. The CPI(M) is emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the use of official documents to ensure fair electoral practices. The Election Commission of India has protocols in place for the management and use of official seals to prevent misuse, which are critical in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. Further investigations may be warranted to address concerns surrounding the oversight mentioned by the CEOs office.
