EAM Jaishankar Inaugurates India-Supported Agro-Processing Facility in South Trinidad

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on May 8, 2023, marking the final destination of his three-nation diplomatic tour, which included Jamaica and Suriname. This visit is part of Indias broader strategy to enhance bilateral relations and foster cooperation with Caribbean nations.

During his tour, Minister Jaishankar engaged in discussions focused on various areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. The Indian government has been actively seeking to strengthen its ties in the Caribbean, recognizing the regions potential for economic collaboration and connectivity.

In Trinidad and Tobago, Jaishankars agenda included meetings with government officials and discussions aimed at boosting partnerships in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and technology. This trip underscores Indias commitment to expanding its presence in the Caribbean, a region that plays a significant role in global trade routes and has historical ties with India, particularly due to the Indian diaspora.
