ECI Announces Bypolls for Three Rajya Sabha Seats in West Bengal Scheduled for July 24

Three members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the Rajya Sabha, namely Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik, have officially resigned from their positions. Their resignations occurred at different times throughout June 2023. The decision to step down came in the wake of the partys performance in the recent Assembly elections, during which the TMC faced significant electoral challenges and losses.

The resignation of these members has raised questions regarding the partys internal dynamics and leadership strategies. Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has been a prominent figure within the party, and Sushmita Dev, a former Congress leader, joined the TMC with expectations of strengthening the partys position. Prakash Chik Baraik, who represents the interests of various constituencies, also expressed concerns about the party’s direction.

The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, will likely need to address these internal issues to maintain unity and regain voter confidence ahead of future electoral contests. The implications of these resignations could be significant for the party as it navigates its political landscape in West Bengal and beyond.
