Economist Ashok Lahiri and scientist Gobardhan Das appointed as Vice Chairman and Member of Niti Aayog

Mr. Lahiri, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in West Bengal, has held prominent positions in Indian economic policy. He served as the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, where he played a key role in shaping fiscal policies and economic reforms. Additionally, he is a member of the 15th Finance Commission, which is responsible for recommending the distribution of tax revenues between the central government and the states, an important task that influences the financial governance of the country.

The 15th Finance Commission, established to assess the financial needs of governments at different levels, operates under the leadership of Chairman N.K. Singh and has a mandate that spans from 2020 to 2025. Mr. Lahiris expertise and experience are expected to contribute significantly to the commissions objectives of ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation amidst the evolving economic landscape of India.
