Election Commission Orders Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls in 17 States and Union Territories
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a special summary revision of electoral rolls across 17 states and Union Territories (UTs). This initiative aims to update the electoral rolls and ensure that they reflect the current demographic and electoral landscape.
The revision process is set to begin on November 1, 2023, and will continue until November 30, 2023. During this period, eligible voters will have the opportunity to register themselves and make necessary corrections to their details in the electoral rolls. The ECI has emphasized the importance of this exercise in enhancing voter participation and ensuring that the electoral process is inclusive.
The states and UTs involved in this revision include Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, along with the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
To facilitate the registration process, the ECI has made provisions for online applications, allowing voters to register from the comfort of their homes. Additionally, the commission will set up special camps and outreach programs to encourage voter registration, particularly targeting marginalized communities and first-time voters.
The ECI has also urged citizens to verify their details in the electoral rolls and report any discrepancies. This proactive approach is intended to ensure that all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote in upcoming elections.
The special summary revision is part of the ECIs ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the electoral process in India. By updating the electoral rolls, the commission aims to create a more robust and transparent electoral system that reflects the will of the people.
As the revision period approaches, the ECI is expected to launch awareness campaigns to inform citizens about the process and its significance. This initiative underscores the commissions commitment to fostering a democratic environment where every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in shaping the nations future through their vote.
