Energy Council CEO Urges Nigeria to Enhance Mineral Processing

World Energy Council Nigeria CEO Advocates for Mineral Processing in Nigeria

Bala Wunti, the CEO of the World Energy Council Nigeria, has called on the Nigerian government to enhance its efforts in the processing of minerals within the country. His remarks were made during a recent conference focused on sustainable energy and resource management in Nigeria.

Wunti emphasized that Nigeria possesses a wealth of mineral resources that remain largely untapped. He argued that by processing these minerals domestically, Nigeria could significantly boost its economy, create job opportunities, and reduce the dependence on imported minerals. He stated, “Investing in mineral processing facilities can not only empower our local economies but also decrease our import bills and improve energy security.”

The conference highlighted various challenges facing the mineral processing sector in Nigeria, including inadequate infrastructure, regulatory hurdles, and the need for substantial investment. Wunti urged both the government and private sector to collaborate in developing policies that facilitate mineral processing, thereby attracting local and foreign investments.

Experts at the conference underscored the potential of the mining industry to contribute to Nigerias economic diversification efforts, particularly in light of the ongoing fluctuations in oil prices. They called for strategic initiatives to enhance exploration and processing capabilities in order to capitalize on the nation’s rich mineral deposits.

The World Energy Council continues to advocate for sustainable practices and policies that can drive the growth of the energy sector and related industries in Nigeria.
