EV Manufacturers Request Extension of PM e-DRIVE and PLI Program During Meeting with Kumaraswamy – PSU Watch
A recent meeting held by Karnatakas Heavy Industries Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy, gathered leaders from various electric vehicle (EV) start-ups, including notable companies such as Ather and River. The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss the extension of the government’s PM e-DRIVE scheme and to seek inclusion in the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme designed to bolster the EV industry.
During the discussions, industry representatives expressed their need for clarity on several key issues, including potential modifications to the current PLI framework. Specifically, they articulated five significant changes aimed at enhancing the schemes effectiveness and ensuring greater support for innovation within the sector.
Kumaraswamys engagement with the EV sector is timely, considering the increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions. The PM e-DRIVE initiative primarily aims to enhance the adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India, thereby contributing to the nations goal of reducing carbon emissions. The proposed amendments to the PLI scheme could offer further incentives for manufacturers and promote the domestic production of EVs.
As the global automotive industry moves toward electrification, Indias push to establish a robust EV ecosystem could greatly benefit from these initiatives. Stakeholders are optimistic that the dialogue with Kumaraswamy will lead to actionable measures that support EV start-ups and aid in advancing the country’s green mobility agenda.
