Experts Advocate for Hydration and Awareness to Mitigate Heat-Related Illnesses

During a webinar hosted by The Hindu on Saturday, experts highlighted the potential health risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures. They explained that excessive heat can disrupt the bodys natural thermoregulation processes, which are vital for maintaining a stable internal temperature. This disruption may lead to various health conditions, including heat exhaustion, heat stroke, dehydration, and exacerbation of pre-existing health issues such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.

Researchers emphasized the importance of understanding the physiological impacts of rising global temperatures and climate change. They urged the public to take precautionary measures, especially during heat waves, and emphasized the need for public health initiatives aimed at educating individuals about effective coping strategies to mitigate these risks. In addition, the experts noted that vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses, are particularly at risk and may require special attention during extreme heat events.
