Forest Officials and Volunteers to Distribute 5 Million Seed Balls in North Andhra Pradesh

Forest officials in collaboration with local volunteers have announced plans to distribute 5 million seed balls containing native, drought-resistant tree species across the northern region of Andhra Pradesh as part of the Harita Samaram initiative. This large-scale afforestation effort aims to enhance biodiversity, combat soil erosion, and improve climate resilience in the area, which has been increasingly affected by changing weather patterns and water scarcity.

The seed balls will primarily consist of species that are well-adapted to the local environment, including varieties of neem, tangerine, and tamarind. The distribution is expected to take place in various forest and rural community areas, engaging local residents in the planting process to promote environmental awareness and community involvement.

Harita Samaram, which translates to “Green Mission,” seeks to contribute to India’s broader goals of reforestation and environmental restoration. The initiative aligns with efforts to combat climate change and enhance ecological stability in the region. With sufficient rainfall expected in the upcoming monsoon season, the project aims to optimize the success rate of the seed balls in germination and establishment.
