Former Japanese Minister Criticizes India Over Bullet Train Delays, Indian Government Responds

Former Japanese Minister Akihiro Ohata has publicly criticized the Indian government concerning the delays in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, attributing the setbacks to what he described as “sheer recklessness” on the part of New Delhi. Ohatas comments highlighted concerns over bureaucratic inefficiencies and a lack of timely action from Indian authorities, which he believes have hindered the project’s progress.

In response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India dismissed Ohatas remarks as misaligned with the factual situation. An MEA spokesperson emphasized that discussions between India and Japan regarding the high-speed rail initiative are progressing well, contradicting the narrative presented by the former minister. They noted that the bilateral relationship and collaboration on this project remain strong.

The bullet train project, aimed at significantly reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is a major infrastructure endeavor supported by Japan through financing and technology transfer.
