Gaur Relocated to Forest Habitat After Journey of 300 km Across Districts

A herd of gaur, also known as Indian bison, from the Tiruchi Forest Division has traversed multiple districts, including Pudukottai and Tiruvarur, before arriving at the coastal region of Muthupettai. The animals continued their journey towards Mandapam, passing through Mimisal, Thondi, and Ramanathapuram along the way.

The movement of these animals highlights the interaction of wildlife with human-dominated landscapes. Gaur are typically found in tropical and subtropical forests and are known to wander in search of food and habitat. The current path taken by the herd may be indicative of seasonal foraging behaviors or habitat changes due to environmental factors.

Local wildlife authorities are monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of both the animals and nearby communities. Hazards such as road traffic and human-wildlife conflict remain concerns when wildlife ventures into populated areas. Conservation efforts are in place to protect the habitat of the gaur and to facilitate coexistence between wildlife and local populations.
