General Raja Subramani Assumes Role as Chief of Defence Staff, Emphasizes Integration and Indigenous Capability

In a recent address, the third Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India articulated his strategic priorities for the Indian Armed Forces. He emphasized a commitment to advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modis vision encapsulated by the acronym JAI, which stands for Jointness, Atma Nirbharta (self-reliance), and Innovation.

The Chief of Defence Staff highlighted that Jointness seeks to enhance inter-service cooperation among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, ensuring more synchronized operations and improved capability in both strategy and execution. Atma Nirbharta aims to bolster defense manufacturing and technology within India, reducing reliance on foreign procurement and fostering domestic innovation and production. This initiative aligns with the governments broader ‘Make in India’ initiative, which encourages self-sufficiency and growth in the defense sector.

Furthermore, Innovation underscores the need for the Armed Forces to leverage cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices to maintain operational readiness and effectiveness. This focus on modernizing defense capabilities is critical as global security dynamics evolve.

The Chief of Defence Staff reiterated that these priorities will guide the Armed Forces in meeting contemporary challenges and enhancing national security while also contributing to the overall development of the defense sector in India.
