Global Participation in International Yoga Day Celebrations

The International Day of Yoga is observed worldwide on June 21 each year, a designation made by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. This day aims to raise awareness of the numerous benefits of yoga for physical and mental well-being.

The resolution to celebrate this day was proposed by India and received overwhelming support from UN member states, highlighting the importance of yoga as an ancient practice that promotes health, mindfulness, and harmony. Celebrations often include yoga sessions, workshops, and various activities that encourage participation from individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

The 2022 theme for the International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Humanity,” focusing on the role of yoga in fostering a sense of community and global solidarity, particularly in light of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. As yoga continues to gain popularity around the globe, communities are increasingly recognizing its significance as not only a physical activity but also a tool for mental and emotional resilience.
