Government Considering Incentives for Foreign Companies Interested in Investing in Indias Coal Gasification Sector, Says G. Kishan Reddy
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy highlighted the significant potential of coal gasification in India, describing it as having “immense scope.” Coal gasification is a process that converts coal into gas, which can be utilized for various applications, including electricity generation, chemical production, and fuel synthesis.
Reddys comments come amid Indias ongoing efforts to transition towards cleaner energy sources while still relying on its vast coal reserves. The Indian government has been promoting innovative technologies to enhance the efficiency of coal use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
As part of the initiative to explore coal gasification further, several pilot projects and research collaborations are being established to assess its viability and environmental impact. This aligns with Indias broader commitment to achieving energy security and sustainability targets as outlined in its National Energy Policy.
In recent years, Indias coal production has remained a crucial component of its energy mix, accounting for a significant portion of the countrys electricity generation. The government aims to balance its energy needs with environmental responsibilities by investing in advanced coal technologies, including gasification.
