Government reaches 78% of FY27 disinvestment and asset monetization target in five months

The government has successfully raised over Rs 62,000 crore through disinvestment and asset monetization initiatives, achieving 78% of its full-year budget target for the financial year 2026-2027. A significant portion of this revenue was generated from the sale of stakes in the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), marking a notable step in the governments ongoing efforts to optimize public sector investments. In addition to LIC, several other public sector entities experienced stake dilutions as part of the strategy to enhance fiscal resources.

Authorities are currently advancing plans for the strategic sale of IDBI Bank, which aims to further contribute to the governments financial goals. This initiative is part of a broader disinvestment policy aimed at reducing the fiscal deficit and improving efficiency in the public sector. The government has set a disinvestment target of Rs 81,000 crore for FY27, indicating a continued commitment to leveraging public assets for economic growth.
