Government Reports Higher Production Costs for E20 Compared to Pure Petrol

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has provided clarification regarding the production costs of E20 petrol in comparison to traditional pure petrol. The introduction of ethanol-blended fuel aims to shield Indian consumers from fluctuations in international oil prices, thereby promoting economic stability.

The E20 initiative, which blends 20% ethanol with petrol, has not only been a measure to reduce reliance on crude oil imports but has also resulted in substantial savings in foreign exchange for the country. This strategy supports greater price stability for fuel and concurrently boosts farmers incomes through increased demand for domestically sourced ethanol.

The transition to E20 is being implemented in a phased manner, with thorough consultations involving various stakeholders in the fuel and agriculture sectors. This inclusive approach aims to ensure a smooth shift towards this new fuel standard while addressing the concerns of all parties involved. As of now, the initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of promoting renewable energy and enhancing energy security.
