Goyal Engages with Saudi Trade Minister to Discuss Enhancing Supply Chains

The ministers have reiterated their dedication to enhancing bilateral trade relations between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). They expressed optimism regarding the prospects for significant advancements in the ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the GCC.

The India-GCC FTA, which aims to reduce tariffs and facilitate easier trade between India and the six member states of the GCC—comprising Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain—has been a focal point of discussions in recent months. The ministers highlighted the potential benefits such an agreement could bring to both economies, including increased trade volume and economic cooperation.

As of October 2023, negotiations for the FTA have been taking place with the intention of addressing key areas such as goods, services, and investment. The successful implementation of the FTA could further strengthen ties between India and the GCC, facilitating smoother access to markets and boosting economic growth in both regions.
