ISROs GSLV-F17 Successfully Places EOS-05 Satellite into Geosynchronous Orbit

India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), successfully launched the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite into geosynchronous orbit using its GSLV-F17 rocket on December 7, 2023. This mission marks another significant achievement for ISRO, as the EOS-05 satellite is expected to enhance the country’s capabilities in earth observation, providing critical data for various applications including agriculture, forestry, and disaster management.

The GSLV-F17 rocket lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 5:30 PM IST, carrying the EOS-05 satellite weighing approximately 2,300 kilograms. The satellite is equipped with advanced sensors designed for multi-spectral, multi-resolution imaging of the Earths surface and is capable of providing timely information to assist in decision-making processes, especially for environmental monitoring.

This successful deployment aligns with ISROs ongoing efforts to bolster Indias presence in the global space sector and facilitate strategic data access that can aid in improving disaster preparedness and response mechanisms. The successful launch was met with praises from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who lauded ISRO for its continued accomplishments.

ISRO is also actively pursuing its uncrewed Gaganyaan mission, which aims to send astronauts into space. The agencys chairman, S. Somanath, has indicated that preparations for this ambitious project are progressing well, with the focus on developing technologies necessary for human spaceflight.
