Hazardous Chemicals Detected in Milk During East Godavari Raids

Authorities in Rajamahendravaram have ramped up inspections following a troubling incident where 16 fatalities have been attributed to ethylene glycol poisoning. The Animal Husbandry and Food Safety departments are taking proactive measures to ensure food safety standards are upheld in the region.

As part of the inspection process, officials collected a total of 705 samples for analysis. Of these, 15 samples tested positive for contaminants including urea, detergents, and maltodextrin, raising concerns about the safety of food products circulating in the market.

Ethylene glycol, a substance commonly found in antifreeze and industrial products, is highly toxic when ingested. The local authorities are investigating the sources of contamination and urging the public to report any suspicious food items. They are also emphasizing the importance of adhering to food safety regulations to prevent further incidents.

The heightened inspections come amid broader concerns regarding food safety in India, where incidents related to adulterated food products have been on the rise. The government has been under increasing pressure to strengthen food safety measures and ensure the well-being of consumers.
