Heavy Rain Persists in Odisha, Leading to School Closures in Several Districts; IMD Issues Orange Alert

Schools in several districts of Odisha have been closed due to persistent heavy rainfall associated with the ongoing monsoon season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for seven districts, warning of very heavy rainfall that is expected to continue until July 7.

The affected districts include Khurda, Ganjam, Puri, Cuttack, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, and Jajpur, where local authorities have reported incidents of waterlogging, disruption of transportation, and damage to infrastructure. In light of these adverse weather conditions, officials have advised residents, particularly fishermen, to exercise utmost caution.

In preparation for the rain, state emergency services are on high alert to address any emergencies and provide assistance where needed. The government is also monitoring the situation closely and may implement further measures as necessary to ensure public safety. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local news and official announcements regarding weather updates and safety protocols.
